World Table Tennis Day

Popular, Universal & Inclusive

World Table Tennis Day is annually celebrated on April 6 since 2015, also marking the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace. We want this day to be socially inclusive and use it as an excuse to celebrate our sport for one day. The ultimate aim is to keep as many people as possible involved with table tennis.

Thank you for celebrating the WTTD 2021 with us, and stay tuned for WTTD 2022!

Background: Why FEMpowerment?

We believe that the fight for equal fundamental human rights is not only related to females! Everyone, including men and boys, HAS TO be involved, too:

  • General low participation rate of women and girls in table tennis
  • Unfair situation: All genders should have the same human rights, which is still not yet achieved
  • Girls and women constitute the largest group of disadvantaged people

Since Covid-19:

  • Data shows increase of violence against women and girls [1]
    • In particular domestic violence
    • Struggle to access services e.g. health, police and sport facilities

Host a WTTD 2021 event or celebrate online to make your contribution to the UN Sustainable Development Goal 5: Gender Equality! [2]

Because equality of all gender identities is central to the achievement of all SDGs as it is not only a human right, but a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world!

Empowered (wo)men empower EVERYONE!

To ALL people around the world: No matter who you are, no matter how different you are in terms of age, gender, social status, culture and physical ability, join our World Table Tennis Day 2021 celebrations to empower women and girls from your community!

What is your mother doing on April 6? Your sister? Your girlfriend? Your daughter? Your neighbour? Your classmate? Bring them along to play table tennis! Support their development of knowledge and skills in order to get them empowered!

Create a safe and fair environment for girls and women at your WTTD event!

In times of Covid-19 we recommend EVERYONE, EVERYWHERE to be in solidarity with our community! Keep up to date on your local, regional and national limitations and restrictions to celebrate in a healthy environment and to flatten the curve. Thus, we are going to offer you two ways to join WTTD 2021:

    • Virtual celebration - for those, where Covid-19 is still present
    • Physical celebration - for those, who are allowed to host an event

Thank you for being part of it, for joining our WTTD family and for contributing to gender equality in your community!
