Table Tennis for New Life

Naulo Ghumti Nepal, Nepal

Since the mid-1990s, the number of people afflicted with HIV/AIDS and using drugs began trending upward in Nepal. Therefore, marginalised and stigmatised key populations of survivors of substance abuse, PLHIVs, IDUs, and vulnerable poor children and communities across the country face incredible difficulties to reintegrate back into society once rehabilitated.

Project support start: 01-04-2022
Status: Project implementation
Project location: Pokhara, Nepal

Naulo Ghumti Nepal, a non-governmental organisation located in Pokhara, Nepal, is dedicated to supporting individuals with substance use disorders and those living with HIV throughout Table Tennis for New Life Project. Each year, over half of the participants in their Drug Rehabilitation Programme experience a relapse within one year following their discharge from treatment.

Incorporating sports-based therapies, including Table Tennis, into their treatment modalities enhances traditional counseling methods, yielding improved outcomes for patients. This innovative approach aims to reduce relapse rates by promoting both physical and mental recovery, thereby fostering a more resilient and healthier community.
