WTTD 2025 in China: 14,000+ Individuals Joined the Table Tennis Festivities in 114 Parks Across the Country
This year, 58 World Table Tennis Day (WTTD) celebration events were officially registered in China, surpassing last year’s record of 54. But the true spirit and energy surrounding WTTD in China went far beyond the numbers! Under the Chinese Table Tennis Association (CTTA)’s nationwide initiative, “National Ball in Parks – Hundred Parks and Tens of Thousands of People Playing Table Tennis to Promote Health,” more than 14,000 participants came together on the same day in 114 parks across the country, embodying the WTTD spirit of connecting people through the universal power of table tennis.
To mark World Table Tennis Day 2025, the CTTA launched the “Table Tennis in 100 Parks: A Health Boost for All” campaign, organising a series of events throughout China. Celebrations took place across 31 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities, including the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions. In total, nearly 15,000 table tennis enthusiasts gathered in parks to enjoy synchronised games and festivities.
This campaign also marked the official kick-off of CTTA’s 2025 initiative to promote table tennis in schools, parks, and communities, further expanding the sport’s grassroots reach and encouraging mass participation in line with national fitness goals.
The WTTD celebration in Macao took on added significance as the city hosted the ITTF Men’s and Women’s World Cup 2025. The event welcomed ITTF & ITTF Foundation President Petra Sörling, ITTF Deputy President and former CTTA President Liu Guoliang, ITTF Group CEO Steve Dainton, ITTF Secretary General Raul Calin, and Chinese national team stars Liang Jingkun and Wang Manyu. They joined young talents from the Macao Table Tennis School in friendly doubles matches, bridging generations and playing side by side with aspiring athletes. The occasion brought together recreational players and elite athletes, showcasing the universal appeal of table tennis.
President Petra Sörling delivered the opening address, stating:
“The ITTF adheres to the principle that table tennis brings life into motion – everyone can participate in table tennis, every table can become a ping pong table, and all people can enjoy this sport. Everyone present here today is a member of the global table tennis family. As World Table Tennis Day is being celebrated across the globe, I feel particularly proud to celebrate this occasion with all of you here in Macao.”
At the ITTF Foundation, we are thrilled to witness the growing participation in China year by year—not only from the table tennis community but also from the wider public—in celebrating World Table Tennis Day and its powerful role in promoting social development, inclusivity, and a shared sense of belonging through sport.
Looking ahead, we eagerly anticipate that not only China but countries and territories around the world will continue to embrace WTTD, engaging an ever-broader spectrum of individuals in celebrating diversity, inclusion, and the universal joy of table tennis.
