A colourful celebration showing the community vibes

For the second year in a row, WTTD embraced the theme of Diversity and Inclusion. This time, the main celebration event was hosted in Nairobi, Kenya, in collaboration with Vision Changers Kenya, one of our Dream Building Fund project partners.

Held at the Nairobi City Hall, the event brought together a participation of youth, sport leaders, national and international guests, and members of the local community, all united by the spirit of togetherness and the passion for the sport.

The event featured inclusive mixed doubles tournaments, where players of all backgrounds, ages, abilities, and gender identities came together to play, connect, and celebrate. The matches echoed the unifying power of sport: no barriers, just joy and connection.

Adding a deeper layer to the event was a panel discussion on how sport, and table tennis in particular, can help build inclusive societies. Inspired by the roundtable hosted during the WTTD 2024 Leipzig event, this year’s discussion brought together key voices from the table tennis and sport for development areas. The panellists included:

  • Petra Sörling, IOC Member and President of the ITTF & ITTF Foundation
  • Andrew Mudibo, President of the Kenya Table Tennis Association
  • John Baraza, Nairobi County Assistant Director of Sport
  • Titus Oketch, Executive Director of Vision Changers Kenya
  • Habib Omar, youth leader and Kariobangi North project beneficiary

Together, they explored how stakeholders at all levels can drive forward inclusion, cohesion, and empowerment through sport within the communities.

Beyond the matches and the conversation, the event also pulsed with Kenyan culture, music, dance, and laughter echoed through the venue. The WTTD 2025 Kenya event truly offered a beautiful snapshot of how table tennis can unite and create a platform for everyone to enjoy the fun, togetherness, and shared love for the sport.
