World Parkinson Coalition and ITTF Foundation Join Forces to Empower Parkinson's Community

In an exciting development for the Parkinson's community, we at the ITTF Foundation are thrilled to announce our partnership with the World Parkinson Coalition (WPC)! The WPC has extended an invitation to the ITTF Foundation to host the table tennis room as part of the ‘Wellness Way’ section at the upcoming World Parkinson Congress, scheduled to take place in Barcelona, Spain from the 4th to the 7th of July 2023.

This collaboration not only promises to provide an engaging activity for attendees but also serves as a platform to raise awareness about the ITTF Foundation’s efforts in the Parkinson's space. Through this shared endeavour, both organisations aim to empower individuals affected by Parkinson's disease and advance the cause of better treatment and care.

Promoting wellness at the World Parkinson Congress:

The World Parkinson Congress is a globally renowned triennial inclusive event that brings together experts, healthcare professionals, researchers, and people living with Parkinson's disease. The objective of the Congress is to discuss, learn, and engage in debate around the latest scientific discoveries, medical and comprehensive care practices related to Parkinson’s disease.

The congress aims to emphasize the importance of holistic well-being for individuals affected by Parkinson's disease. As part of this initiative, the ITTF Foundation has been given the responsibility of hosting the table tennis room within the 'Wellness Way' section.

Table tennis - a Sport for Parkinson's well-being:

Table tennis is gaining recognition as an effective physical activity for individuals with Parkinson's disease. The sport offers a range of benefits, including improved motor skills, hand-eye coordination, balance, and overall physical fitness. Moreover, the fast-paced nature of table tennis stimulates mental agility and concentration, helping combat some of the cognitive challenges faced by individuals with Parkinson's disease.

By providing a dedicated space for table tennis at the World Parkinson Congress, the ITTF Foundation aims to offer a engaging activity for attendees showcasing all benefits of table tennis practice. The room will serve as a meeting point for participants, fostering connections and camaraderie among individuals living with Parkinson's, their caregivers, and healthcare professionals. The inclusive nature of table tennis makes it accessible to people of all ages and abilities, enabling everyone to participate and enjoy the sport.

Some of the activities that the ITTF Foundation will conduct during the Congress includes a competition for players, exercises for health benefits, self-assessment of a player’s skill. All these activities and more will be a part of the safe space created for physical activity, social interaction, and fun.

The partnership between the ITTF Foundation and the World Parkinson Coalition represents a significant step forward in the quest to empower individuals affected by Parkinson's disease. Simultaneously, this collaboration allows the ITTF Foundation to invite more players to the World Parkinson’s Table Tennis Championships 2023, to be held during the World Table Tennis for Health Festival in Crete, Greece from 1-5 November.

As the Congress unfolds in Barcelona, the shared vision of the Foundation and WPC will shine through, inspiring attendees and demonstrating the power of collaboration in making a positive difference. By embracing activities like table tennis, we can improve well-being, enhance quality of life, and foster a sense of community for those living with Parkinson's.
