Table Tennis Moves, Connects, Changes Lives: Wrapping Up World Table Tennis Day 2026
On 23 April, World Table Tennis Day (WTTD) once again united people around one table, celebrating the joy of the sport and championing the spirit of Health & Well-being. Marking the first year of this biennial theme, WTTD 2026 shone brighter than ever, with more than 1,000 events across 140 countries and territories showcasing the power of table tennis to bring together people of all walks of life and deliver real benefits to physical, mental, and social well-being. Transcending age, ability, background, and borders, the spirit of this year's celebration rang loud and clear: #TTMovesYou, and everyone!

A Record-Breaking Movement
Under the new theme of Health & Well-being, this 11th edition of the WTTD global celebration reached new heights, becoming the biggest and most celebrated edition in the event's history. With a record-breaking 1,000+ events across 140 countries and territories, it was both thrilling and encouraging to welcome so many new countries, Member Associations, organisations, and individuals joining the festivities for the first time. This remarkable growth speaks to the expanding global impact of the celebration.

The top five countries by number of registered events are:
- India — 316 events
- China — 140 events
- Pakistan — 61 events
- Portugal — 40 events
- England — 21 events
Additionally, with Spinsight joining as the Global Main Sponsor of WTTD 2026, we were able to reach a wider range of individuals and communities, further amplifying both the impact and the lasting legacy of the celebration.

From inclusive tournaments and fun games in parks and schools to table tennis activities promoting physical, mental, and social health in nursing homes and community centres, the energy was vibrant, the smiles were wide, and the passion was palpable. Each event uniquely reflected the connection, inclusivity, and positive power that table tennis brings to people of all ages and genders across cultures and backgrounds around the world.
Main Celebration Event in India
This year, the heartbeat of the global celebration pulsed strongly in Kapadwanj, India, where the ITTF Foundation hosted the WTTD main celebration event in partnership with Kapadwanj Kelavani Mandal (KKM) — one of our dedicated TT4Change project partners.

Held within the Kapadwanj community in the Gujarat region, the celebration brought together children, youth, and community participants from KKM's Smash Barriers project communities.

"This year, World Table Tennis Day takes on an even more special meaning, because 2026 also marks the ITTF's 100th anniversary. One hundred years of table tennis has brought people together. Communities like Kapadwanj are the very heart of that century-long story," said ITTF and ITTF Foundation President Petra Sörling. "Today, we are united behind the theme Health & Well-being. For people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities, table tennis is a unique sport to achieve these goals."

The event featured an exhibition of community work and table tennis history, vibrant cultural performances, and exciting exhibition matches with around 400 participants.

President Sörling was joined on the table by table tennis legend Peter Karlsson, Indian table tennis icon and ITTF Foundation Ambassador Sharath Kamal, and table tennis influencer Adam Bobrow, together building the momentum of the day and creating an atmosphere of pure joy and inspiration.

From rich cultural elements to interactive community matches, the India event was a vivid demonstration of how table tennis can build bridges, empower communities, and inspire inclusion and equality.
32 Promoters Spreading the Healing Power of Table Tennis
Continuing one of WTTD's one of the most cherished traditions, 32 dedicated WTTD Promoters from 24 countries and territories, supported by the ITTF Foundation, led the charge in bringing this life-affirming celebration to their communities.

These passionate individuals, hailing from diverse professional and personal backgrounds, designed their events around the theme of Health & Well-being, offering a rich range of activities to encourage movement, improve physical health, foster social connections, and let participants experience the pure joy of table tennis.

From parks and hospitals to elderly care homes, disability associations, and community centres, their efforts collectively showcased the healing power and infectious spirit of our sport.
