Introducing Sport for Development (S4D)
The workshop began with an introduction to the concept of Sport for Development (S4D) — focusing not on competition or technical mastery, but on using sport as a powerful vehicle for social development.
Under the S4D approach, table tennis stands out for its adaptability, affordability, and accessibility, making it an ideal medium for driving grassroots change. Its potential aligns perfectly with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), addressing issues such as inclusion, education, gender equality, and social cohesion.
From Vision to Application: Key Takeaways
Following the introduction, the session delved into the framework, criteria, and guidelines for a strong and successful application to the Dream Building Fund. Key takeaways included:
- Theory of Change (ToC):
A critical element of any strong proposal. Participants were encouraged to use our Think Sustainably, Act Now manual to sharpen their project’s focus and clarity.
- Funding & Support:
Selected projects will receive USD 10,000–25,000 in funding, with support lasting 2 to 3 years. Six projects will be selected in this cycle, with implementation starting in April 2026 or earlier.
- Eligibility:
Applications are open only to legally registered non-profit, table tennis, sport, or social organisations (individuals are not eligible). We strongly encourage ITTF Member Associations to apply. With the experience, networks, and national reach, we believe that the MAs are in a powerful position to launch impactful, scalable projects through table tennis.
- Application Requirements:
A successful application must present a well-developed idea and complete all required documents, such as Project Summary, Activity Plan Proposal, Budget Forecast, Pitch Video, and other supporting materials as specified in our guidelines (click here to access the guidelines and documents).
The workshop concluded with a lively Q&A session, where participants asked insightful questions to ensure their proposals aligned with the goal of promoting social development. We were thrilled to see such enthusiasm and to provide clarity where needed.
With the momentum and excitement generated during the workshop, we can’t wait to receive inspiring, transformative project proposals. Whether you’re fostering inclusion in underserved communities, promoting peace, or empowering youth, this fund is for you.
