2022 World Table Tennis Day Report: #PeaceOnTheTable Through Table Tennis

A memoir of what the worldwide table tennis community has achieved this April 6, by using our favourite sport to create dialogues, build friendships, and resolve conflicts on the grassroots level.

“Timing is everything,” they say, and World Table Tennis Day 2022 took place at a significant time. While the world was rattled by the chaos prevailing in Europe, misfortune and injustice continue in other parts of the globe.

World Table Tennis Day 2022 focused on using table tennis for peace-making and conflict resolutions. In line with the biennial celebration of the 50th anniversary of Ping Pong Diplomacy, the ITTF Foundation has made it the theme for this April 6.

Through 314 events across 107 countries and territories, our Promoters and event organisers have continued to amaze us with their passion and creativity in helping us bring #PeaceOnTheTable through table tennis. Activities ranging from good-old tournaments to panel discussions, donation ceremonies, exhibitions and live music performances were all great examples of using table tennis as a tool to promote peace and reconciliations.

We are happy to report that 88% of the World Table Tennis Day 2022 Promoters believe that they have achieved the goals they set for the event. 82% of the Promoters agree they have acquired skills or knowledge regarding conflict transformation and peacekeeping, and 95% of them are already applying the diplomacy skill and knowledge gained through the Promoters Initiative to other events.

In addition to the Promoter and organiser events, 22,965 table tennis enthusiasts worldwide have joined our 24-hour live stream to celebrate World Table Tennis Day 2022. Through a variety of programmes including Meet & Greets, Expert Talks, and live broadcasts of multiple physical events, the worldwide table tennis community was invited to the online celebration of table tennis, and its long history in building friendships, creating dialogues, and making peace.

Thank you everyone for another year of fun and excitement. We cannot wait for World Table Tennis Day 2023.
